January celebrates National School Choice Awareness. Educating people with cognitive differences is a hotly debated topic. Separation, inclusion, quotas, resources, and more can take a back seat to self-determination. Teaming with educational professionals to determine the best environment and approach to Salima’s education is among my annual tasks — like an annual physical. I’m very grateful that I live in a state that has choice. Otherwise, it could take an entire educational career to find the “right fit” for your student. The picture above has a link to more information about National School Choice Week. I’m also proud to introduce the Featured Business of the Month — the L.O.P.E.S. Academy. Inspired by their daughter, Emma, Don and Kim Cardon founded the L.O.P.E.S. Academy in partnership with Grand Canyon University to provide a post-secondary experience for students with cognitive differences. Learn more about the L.O.P.E.S. Academy on the Salima’s List Classified Page. As you start the new year, I hope that you return to Salima’s List often to Search, List, and Find businesses for your developmental needs. I also encourage you to provide feedback using the Contact tab…and, most importantly, INVITE OTHERS using the footer on every page!
